Disaster Recovery Committee Charge

The purpose of this committee is to serve as a disaster recovery team in the event of any emergency or disaster in the MSU Libraries which affects or endangers the condition of the library collections, including those in branch libraries. The duties of the committee will include:

  • taking charge of cleanup and recovery operations whenever library materials are affected
  • securing the perimeter of the affected area from unauthorized personnel
  • setting up a communications and command station; assessing the scope of the salvage problem
  • formulating a plan of action and determining immediate supply needs and action priorities
  • delegating responsibilities; appointing a person to meet and direct arrivals of supplies and personnel
  • setting up teams with leaders to deal with books
  • training volunteers on the spot

In carrying out their duties the Team will have the authority to appropriate supplies (such as fans, trucks, etc.) from all areas of the library.

The Team is led by the Disaster Recovery Coordinator whose duties consist of the following:

  • convene and chair the meetings
  • work closely with the Head of Facilities Support in acting as quickly as possible to assess the damage and direct clean-up operations
  • activate the team in the event of an emergency
  • oversee recovery operations
  • be responsible for communications, summary reports, evaluations, and follow-up assignments

Established September 2, 1999, the Disaster Recovery Committee is a standing committee of the MSU Libraries.
