Branch History

The BPS Library enjoys a prime location off the central atrium of the Biomedical and Physical Sciences Building, the largest academic building on MSU's campus and a partner in the Michigan Life Sciences Corridor. The library houses more than 104,000 volumes. Its collections support the research interests of the five departments house within, and adjacent, to the building: Biochemistry, Chemistry, Physics & Astronomy, Microbiology & Molecular Genetics, and Physiology.

The Physics-Math Library first opened in September, 1949 in the Physics-Astronomy Building. Math library materials were moved to a new Math Library in Wells Hall in 1967. Astronomy materials were added to create the Physics-Astronomy Library in 1972. In 2002, the Physics-Astronomy Library merged with the former Chemistry Library into the new Biomedical and Physical Sciences Building.
