How do I locate a book?
You can locate a book by using the MSU libraries catalog. You can search for a book using a keyword, author, title, etc. search. If you need additional assistance please contact the Vet Med library - 353-5099.
How do I locate a book housed in the Veterinary Medicine library?
From the Vet Med library branch page, click the "Branch" tab under "Quick Search and enter terms into the box, then click the search button.
Can I get books sent from other libraries on campus?
Yes, MSU faculty, staff, and medical students can have any circulating book found in the MSU libraries checked out to them and sent to the Vet Med library for pickup. Click here to fill out the Book Delivery form.
How long can I keep books housed in the Veterinary Medicine library?
Books from the Vet Med library regular stacks circulate for a period of 3 weeks. They may be renewed if there is not a hold placed on them. Reserve books, current and bound journals circulate for a 2 hour period with no renewals.
How do I locate journal articles?
To locate journal articles your need to search for your topic in an online index (subject database) for the journal literature in your field. The research guide "Finding Veterinary Medicine Related Journal Articles" will walk you through how to search for journal articles.
Does MSU have access to the electronic full text of the articles I'm looking for?
To see if the MSU libraries has access to the electronic full text of an article you first have to check to see if MSU subscribes to the journal in which the article is published. You can check the online catalog for the title of the journal. For example, if you are looking for the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association (JAVMA). Do a title search for JAVMA in the online catalog. If the title is available electronically there should be a link to the electronic version of the journal. Remember to check the dates! In the case of JAVMA, the MSU libraries has electronic access from 2000 to the present. Is it possible to link to the full text electronic version of an article in PubMed?

How much does it cost to make copies and how do I pay for them?
There are two coin operated copiers in the Veterinary Medicine Library. The copies are .10 each. The copiers take coins, $1.00 & $5.00 dollar bills. (The Library does not make change) Copy cards can be purchased for $5.00 from the vending machine near the Circulation Desk at the Main library.
How do I get an article if MSU doesn't own the journal?
If the MSU libraries doesn't have access to a journal. You can request an InterLibrary loan. MSU uses the ILLiad system to obtain InterLibrary loans. To request an InterLibrary loan you must first register with ILLiad ↗ (don't worry it's free). If you have already registered with ILLiad enter your MSU Net ID and ILLiad password, choose a request type from the menu options and enter your information. If you have not registered you must do so before you can enter any information. You may contact the InterLibrary Services department at 517-432-6123 x303 with any questions.
How do I access the library's resources from off-campus?
First you have to configure your computer through the Proxy Server. The instructions will walk you through how to configure your computer. If you have trouble configuring your computer or connecting to the library's electronic resources contact Library Distance Learning Services at 517-355-2345 or 1 800-500-1554.
Can I see what library materials I have checked out?
Yes, you will need your MSU Net I.D. or the barcode from your community borrower card and password in order to log in to Your Library Account.
Can I renew library materials without going to the library?
Yes, in most cases you can renew material online, there may be some exceptions.
