Off Campus Access - Internet Explorer 7

Now as easy as clicking!

Access to off-campus resources is now even easier. Most of our resources on our electronic resources page have been updated to use a program called EZProxy. This means you no longer need to set-up the proxy settings in your browser. When you find a resource on our e-resources page or in our library catalog just follow the link like you would any other. You will receive a login page asking for your NetID and password. Just enter your information and you'll be automatically taken to the resource.

If you are accessing at a workplace or somewhere with a Firewall you will need to open ports 2047 and 443.

Note: Not all resources have been converted and if you follow links from inside a course or elsewhere it might not have been updated. If you have any problems please feel free to call us at 1-800-500-1554 or 517-355-2345. Help is available 24/7 from Distance Learning Services.

  2. On the Internet Options dialog go to the Connections tab and click on LAN Settings. Note: If you are on a dial-up connection or DSL that requires a login then select your connection in the Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings box and then click Settings instead of using LAN Settings.

  3. In the LAN Settings dialog select Use a Proxy Server for your LAN. Enter proxy.msu.edu in the first box and 8080 in the box labeled "Port". Select "Bypass proxy server for local addresses".

  4. Click OK twice until you are back to a webpage. Then either refresh the page, close and reopen the browser, or follow a link. This should cause a prompt to open asking for your NetID and password. This is the same information you use to access other MSU sites such as Mail, ANGEL or StuInfo. Enter this information and click OK.

  5. You are now connected to the proxy server and should be able to access the e-resources. If you are having any problems please feel free to call us at 1-800-500-1554. We are available 24/7.
