Our Collections
The MSU Libraries strive to provide current, reliable information sources across the full range of disciplines and every field MSU students are preparing to enter. From music to medicine, the world's learning is collected, organized, and made accessible by the library.
The library collection now totals nearly 5 million volumes, including current subscriptions to more than 38,000 journals. Approximately 85% of our journals are available online in full-text, in addition to some 35,000 e-books and hundreds of electronic databases.
Our collection includes several nationally-prominent areas of specialization:
- Africana Collection – extensive coverage of the history, people and cultures of Africa, with a special emphasis on the sub-Saharan regions.
- Packaging Collection – a broadly interdisciplinary collection incorporating materials from the fields of chemistry, engineering, business, fine arts, and law
- Vincent Voice Library – 40,000 hours of spoken word recordings, featuring 100,000 individuals from all walks of life dating back to 1888
- Turfgrass Information Center – the most comprehensive, publicly available collection of research and educational materials on turf science
- Russel B. Nye Popular Culture Collection – 200 years of popular culture in America are extensively documented here, including comic art, genre fiction, children's books, and more
